Defender Craig Alcock spoke exclusively to Rovers Player HD after completing day one of pre-season with the Rovers squad.
After the 6 week break and 7 new signings, the players returned to training ahead of the 2016/17 season campaign.“It’s nice to be back and amongst the lads again,” said Alcock.
"We’re all geared up and ready to get going. Our first session was good, it's nice to see all the new boys and see them gel with the rest of the lads. Everyone is in good spirits and fitness levels are good.”
When asked about the new signings, Alcock stated that the club had been impressive during the transfer window and there was a good feeling around the place.
“The manager has shown real intent with his signings. Fair play to the club and the board, the gaffer has gone out there and got some really good targets, especially for the level we’re at. It sends out a real statement.
“Getting players in early so you have a full squad together for pre-season is so important, it's amazing what a good team spirit can do for you. Look at Leicester City last year, we’re on a slightly different level to them but hopefully the end goal is still the same!
"Promotion is obviously what we all want. There are going to be ups and downs but that is without a doubt the aim and our sole focus.
"Momentum is going to be key for us this year. You look at other teams such as Burton, Norwich and Southampton who have kicked on once getting one promotion under their belt, it’s really important. It keeps a good team spirit and keeps a feel good factor around the place amongst the fans as well.”
When asked about himself, Alcock said: "I feel good to be fair, I’ve felt settled here since the moment I signed. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it and I just can’t wait for the season to start now.”
