Rovers were undone by three goals inside 10 minutes at Bloomfield Road.

A bright start for Rovers was undone either side of half-time, as the home side struck after 39, 47 and 48 minutes to seal all three points.

Tommy Rowe's penalty conversion threatened a comeback, but Rovers can have few complaints about returning home empty handed.

Darren Ferguson made two changes to the starting XI, with Harry Middleton and Mathieu Baudry coming in as part of a switch to a back three.

Rovers started brightly, a feature of this season, and took the lead before the opening minute.

John Marquis and James Coppinger probed into the area, with a cross being turned into his own net by defender Andy Turner.

After the early adventure the game quietened down, with Baudry needed to turn Matt's effort over and Tommy Rowe just failing to get on the end of a Coppinger pass.

Coppinger was again given the chance to put in a dangerous delivery when Marquis was felled on the right wing after 23 minutes. The free-kick was whipped into the six-yard area to prompt a goalmoath scramble, with the home side eventually hacking the ball clear.

Blackpool hauled themselves after 25 minutes through a quickly-taken free-kick from Kyle Vassell. He fed the home side's top scorer Brad Potts, who rifled the ball in at the near post.

The Seasiders took the lead after 39 minutes when Rovers failed to cope with a ball from the left which was met by Kelvin Mellor at the far post, and the right-back looped the ball over Marosi into the top-left corner.

Liam Mandveille came on for Harry Middleton at the break, but he had not had time for a touch before Rovers found themselves three goals behind.

The Seasiders won a free-kick straight from kick-off, which they used to extend their advantage. Danny Pugh rolled the ball off to Potts, who rifled the ball inside Marosi's left post.

Moments later and the home side led 4-1 after Kyle Vassell's effort from distance. Marosi struggled to get down and, before play restarted, had to be helped off by physio Alex Dalton with an apparent injury to his right leg.

Rovers were handed a lifeline after 66 minutes when Rowe was tripped inside the area. He dusted himself off to slot home the spot-kick into the bottom-left corner.

Rowe had a chance to set up a grandstand finish with three minutes on the clock when he took his second penalty of the match.

His pass through found John Marquis, who was brought down by the home keeper Slocombe. After a delay while Slocombe was treeated for an injury, then booked, Rowe tried to again beat him in the bottom-left corner but the home keeper was equal to it and palmed it away.
