Rovers got back to winning ways thanks to goals from Tommy Rowe, Mathieu Baudry and John Marquis.

Boss Darren Ferguson made one change, with Mathieu Baudry coming into the side and Harry Middleton dropping to the bench. Baudry came back into the back four, with Niall Mason playing as holding midfielder.

Cambridge had the first chance, with Ben Williamson glancing a third-minute header wide, as both sides adapted to the muddy conditions caused by a pre-match downpour which continued into the opening exchanges.

George Maris tried a shot from distance which was comfortable for Ian Lawlor, before the visiting keeper was penalised for a foul in the area after Williamson went down when put through.

It looked a soft penalty, and Luke Berry tried to side-foot it home but only managed to put it into the Rovers fans behind the goal.

Rovers went ahead with their first real chance of the match. Marquis picked it up on the right, and played it back to Matty Blair. The ball was passed quickly from right to left, resulting in Craig Alcock sliding in Tommy Rowe who cut inside and slotted the ball home.

Baudry made it 2-0 shortly afterwards when he flicked home from Conor Grant's pass, as Rovers took control of the game.

Alfie May worked space for a shot which was headed over the bar by home captain Leon Legge.

HALF-TIME | Cambridge 0 Rovers 2

Neither side made any changes at half-time, and Rovers had the first opportunity of the second period.
Alcock's free-kick from close to the half-way line was headed on by Marquis into the path of May. He controlled the ball well, but his shot was straight at Will Norris who gathered at the second attempt.

A few minutes later Norris had to come racing out of his goal to head the ball away under pressure from Marquis. James Coppinger tried to get away a shot from distance, with the goal unguarded, but a defender got back well to block his effort.

Cambridge's first chance of the second half came after 55 minutes when Liam O'Neil's smart shot following a corner was blocked by Berry.

Rovers had a free-kick in a dangerous position after 62 minutes when Alfie May was fouled centrally just outside the area. After some trickery by Rovers to try and fool the home keeper, Grant curled a left-footed effort over the bar.

Cambridge had a free-kick of their own in a dangerous position after 65 minutes, with Maris' effort going well over the bar and not troubling Lawlor.

Rovers made it 3-0 with just over 20 minutes to go. Marquis got away in the area and was hauled down by Legge. The Rovers forward dusted himself off to convert the spot-kick with a low effort into the bottom left corner.

May went close to making it 4-0 with an effort which squirmed just wide of the right-hand post.

Ferguson made two changes after 76 minutes as he looked to see the game out. Andy Williams came on for May, while Harry Middleton came on in place of Coppinger.

Cambridge pulled a goal back from nowhere after 78 minutes. There was nothing on for Maris, who let fly with a stunning long-range effort which dipped in off the bar.

Matty Blair came to Rovers' rescue after 83 minutes to clear off the line after Gerry McDonagh broke free in the area and rounded Lawlor - his effort looked destined for the bottom-right corner before the right-back motored across to hook the ball away.

And Baudry had to be alert after 87 minutes when McDonagh, again, got into space and lifted the ball over Lawlor. The French defender calmly took the ball down before clearing.
Cambridge pulled a second goal back two minutes into stoppage time, when Berry headed home from Harrison Dunk's cross.
