DF pre-Wycombe

Gaffer talks up Chairboys meeting as he looks to finish month on a high.

Darren Ferguson said that Doncaster Rovers have more than handled his expectations on their own patch.

Despite injuries, Ferguson’s squad have amassed 26 points already this term and will head in to Saturday’s clash with Wycombe looking to cap off an excellent month.

“If we win (on Saturday) it will be four wins out of five, that’s a great month. Saturday’s a big game for us in terms of we need to make sure we get the win,” he said.

“If we can get the win on Saturday, no matter what way you dress it up 4 wins out of 5 is promotion form.

“I think we’re a big scalp regardless of where we are in the league. We’re one of the bigger clubs and certainly have one of the more attractive stadiums in the league. Teams come here and see it as nothing to lose so they can go and enjoy it.

“Our home form is so important; we’re on a good run. We need to make sure we make it as hard for the opposition as possible.”

A 4-2 loss at Blackpool last weekend was the only blip for Rovers on an otherwise faultless month and Ferguson’s mantra that attack is the best form of defence will continue against the Chairboys whom Rovers have never defeated in three previous attempts.

He said: “Blackpool; it was done and dusted Monday morning with the usual meeting. We watched certain things back on the game so done Monday - finished.

“It would help if we could start earning more clean sheets, I do think we have conceded too many goals but the main focus for Saturday is to be really on the front foot and have a really good attacking performance.

“I think we’re doing really well, we’re scoring goals and are the top goal-scorers in the league. Our points total is pretty good and we can only control what we can do until we start playing the teams around us.

“Wycombe are a very fit team, they did well last season and they’ll get about us. They’ve got a clear threat in (Adebayo) Akinfenwa. People may say what they want about him; he’s a real handful at this level.”
