DF post-Carlisle

Manager frustrated that he's forced to settle for a point.

Darren Ferguson was pragmatic over a 2-2 draw against Carlisle United at Keepmoat Stadium which preserved the unbeaten home form of Rovers and made it ten games without defeats for the visitors.

Rovers had a chance to all but seal the game when awarded a penalty early in the second half but couldn’t capitalise as Tommy Rowe thumped the post in agonising fashion.

“I’m getting a little bit frustrated saying the same thing. The game should be over with the penalty and we’re not putting teams away,” said Ferguson.

“Lately we’ve been getting punished by it, that’s the frustrating thing for me. The lads are giving everything, I can’t fault them for that – their efforts have been excellent.

“It was a great reaction to going behind and that was important because losing on Saturday, going behind at home, the reaction was outstanding but I felt we should have been more than the one goal up but it might not be a bad point in the end.

“It’s not what we want but certainly towards the end of the game there were little flashes of what happened last season and we would have lost that game.”

Ferguson praised Keith Curle’s United as the “best team we’ve played this season” but still felt it was a missed opportunity for Rovers to keep pace with early leaders Plymouth Argyle.

“Credit to Carlisle, they're the best team we’ve played this season for me, they’re a good team,” he said.

“They’ve got energy, they're physical when they need to be and have good footballers, they’re unbeaten in ten games.

“To be fair they had a right go and even at 2-2 they went for the game. We lacked a wee bit of composure when it started getting a little bit hectic.

“It’s two points dropped. Before the game you want to win all your home games. I think teams that come here are going to play with that freedom because there’s not that expectation on them.”
