Manager expecting return to home comforts as Rovers welcome unbeaten opposition.
Darren Ferguson said that he was aiming to extend Rovers’ unbeaten start at home this season when his team entertain Carlisle on Tuesday evening.
The Cumbrians haven’t tasted defeat this campaign and the Scot was hopeful that, after succumbing to defeat against Luton on Saturday, his team would respond on their own patch.
“We’re going in to the game, with the right result then its 19 points from 10 games which is a very good return and that’s all we’re looking to do and then we can look forward to the game (v Portsmouth) on Saturday,” he said.
“What we have done this season when we’ve lost a game this season is won the next one and its important we do that again against a good Carlisle team, a good footballing team with a lot of flexibility in their game.
“We’ve put that (Luton defeat) to one side, the players know what they need to do.
“I think the players are aware that we need to make this a difficult place for the opposition to come; we’ve got 10 points from four games and want to make that 13.”
Ferguson went so far as to say that he thinks there is still more to come from his team at Keepmoat Stadium as the league develops.
He said: “It won’t be easy but at home we want to play with a real energy and aggression. I still don’t think we’ve performed to anywhere near the level that we can at home, I think performances have been better away from home. We’ve had periods where we’ve been dominant but not an entire game.
“We had a really good meeting as we always do after games. Those meetings are good to go through things that we need to improve on, after every game regardless of the result. We analysed the game, looked at it and spoke while the players had their say and their opinion – it’s important that they do.
“We’ve just got to make sure that we keep improving, the decisions we made in the lead up to the goals were poor ones. When you have missed chances and poor goals, you’re going to lose games.
“I don’t think the teams that are there are surprises, it’s just about getting consistency. I know where we want to be and what we have to do to be successful this season.”
