DF ready for Plymouth

24 March 2017

With four wins from their past five games, and just two defeats in 25, Darren Ferguson’s side are on course for an immediate return to Sky Bet League One.

Their next challenge comes from second placed Plymouth Argyle, and the Rovers manager says his players are ready for the occasion in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

“The players are in a good place and that comes with winning games as well as being in a good position in the league. We need to take the opportunity to extend the gap between ourselves and Plymouth on Sunday,” he said.

“The title is not sewn up and neither is promotion. Looking at it, we’ve got a great chance but we need to keep ourselves motivated, that will be easy on Sunday as the facts are simple – if we win then we go nine points clear of second.

“It’ll be a very similar game to the one at their place, they’ll sit off us and try and play on the counter attack – which they’re very good at. There is no doubt that the first goal will be crucial.”

Ferguson was named as Sky Bet League Two manager of the year this week, but says the success of the team is all that matters to him.

“It’s nice, but it’s a collective effort. The main accolade we want is to win the league, and I’ll base my success on how well the team do come the end of the season,” he added.

“The players know we’ve got a lot of quality in the squad, we’ve had players coming off the bench and making a big difference for us recently. Having options at this stage of season is what will set us apart.

“We want to be successful but we need to build on the back of doing well. For us it’s about getting promoted and once that’s done then it’s on to the next challenge in front of us.”
