FF: On your bike

12 May 2017

Club Doncaster Foundation staff have been located at Frenchgate Doncaster all week raising funds for Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust that will help buy life saving equipment.

Cycling on stationary bikes, the Foundation’s Cycle to Health team have been encouraging people in the shopping centre to ride a mile and donate just £1.

Showing her support was the Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones, who has been helping the team record the miles that Doncaster can rack up on the bikes.

She said: “Club Doncaster Foundation have been brilliant, in everything they do, they are our ambassadors and in this case they have been the same - giving everything they have to this worthy cause.

“It’s great to see them helping such a fantastic cause, Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust are fantastic because there aren’t many people who haven’t been affected by cancer and by raising this money they can treat people in Doncaster rather than them travelling to Sheffield.”

Each person that cycles a mile has received a certificate to mark their success and the opportunity to take a selfie to help spread awareness of the Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust.

Club Doncaster Sports College students have also been helping out, nominating themselves to cycle a mile when a member of the public is unable to do so.

Club Doncaster Foundation’s Cycle to Health co-ordinator Scott Copeland said: “It is a well-known fact that cancer is the number one cause of premature death for people in the UK. On a day-to-day basis, the Health and Wellbeing team here at Club Doncaster Foundation are encouraging people to adopt healthier lifestyles to help reduce their risk of certain types of cancer and other diseases.

“National and local campaigns have been fantastic in helping people to recognise the possible signs and symptoms of cancer and seek medical advice earlier.”

“Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust have already been instrumental in improving the services and care local people receive and hopefully the money raised by this event will help them continue this important work.”
