Foundation Friday: Tim Ryan World Cup Winner

22 July 2016

Club Doncaster Sports College Academy Coordinator and former Rovers legend Tim Ryan is now a World Cup winner after his success with the England Seniors team this summer.

Tim and the over 38’s England squad travelled to Chiang Mai, Thailand for the Seniors World Cup and emerged victorious after beating the hosts 1-0 in the final.

A squad which included former Premier League names Barry Hayles and Peter Beagrie sailed through the group phase beating Taiwan 6-0 and USA 2-0.

Tim scored with a trademark left foot strike in the opener and dedicated the goal to our greatly missed student Ethan Hedley.

A 2-1 final group game defeat to Iran was academic as England progressed to beat Scotland 3-0 in the semi-final.

Of the experience Tim said: “It was an amazing experience to be a part of a squad with so many high profile players and to come home victorious rounded off a great two weeks.

“I’m looking forward to showing the students my winner’s medal and showing them I’ve still got it!”
