Hatters v Rovers Preview

22 September 2016

Saturday 24th September 2016 (3pm), Sky Bet League Two, Kenilworth Road.

Rovers travel to Kenilworth Road for the first time in nine years looking for their first win in Bedfordshire since December 1952 when Bobby Herbert’s double earned the visitors a 2-1 victory.

That game, played in front of more than 15,000 spectators, came in Division Two and was only the second time that Rovers have beaten the Hatters on their own turf.

Rovers completed the double on the last day of the season with a 1-0 win at Belle Vue which earned them a 13th placed finish; ahead of West Ham, Everton and Southampton!

After a 4-0 defeat in February 1970, the sides did not meet again until the 2004/05 season with the spoils shared on each occasion.

Rovers took four points from Luton in the 07/08 season – the last season that the clubs crossed swords – courtesy of a 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road and a 2-0 triumph in the final home game of the season.

That win against the already relegated visitors duly put Sean O’Driscoll’s side in pole position to take automatic promotion from League One on the final day; they failed against Cheltenham but would make amends in the play-offs.

TEAM NEWS: Previously injured Mathieu Baudry and Craig Alcock could come in to Darren Ferguson’s thoughts although, having recorded back to back wins, it seems the Scot will change very little unless he has to.
