Luke happy at return

27 March 2017

Luke McCullough was happy to be back out on the pitch as his long spell out through injury came to an end against Plymouth Argyle.

The 23-year-old came on as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat at the Keepmoat Stadium, and says that despite the result, it was pleasing to be back playing with his team-mates after eight months out.

“Different people react differently to the injury and the rehab, I’ve worked hard in my recovery and luckily enough managed to come back sooner than expected,” he said.

“It has been a long journey for me but it all went to plan, it is part of the game so I’ve tried to be positive about it and embrace it a little bit.

“It felt nice to get back out there, my knee is fine I just need to work on match fitness, I’m sure that will come with the more time I get on the pitch.”

Rovers unbeaten home league run was ended by Sonny Bradley’s second half winner, but McCullough felt his side had enough chances to win the game over the course of 90 minutes.

“It’s clear that we deserved to win, if we’d scored in the first half then I think it would have been a completely different match,” he added.

“If you miss that many chances then you’re always vulnerable at the other end and once they scored it was tough for us to get back into it.

“It doesn’t change much for us, the main target at the start of the season was to get promoted so we want to secure that first and then we’ll focus on winning the title.”
