Andy Williams's first-ever senior hat-trick fired Rovers into the automatic promotion places.

Williams struck a sweet volley just 34 seconds in the game, then struck two late goals to cap a memorable afternoon.

Rovers were unchanged, with Alfie Beeston returning to the bench after recovering from illness. Yeovil left new signing Izale McLeod on the bench.

Rovers came flying out of the blocks, and took the lead with less than a minute on the clock. A James Coppinger corner was headed towards goal by Andy Butler, it was only half-cleared and Andy Wlliams smashed home a powerful volley.

It was a great onfidence booster for Rovers,  and Marquis side-footed straight at Krysiak shortly afterwards.

Had a second goal come then, the floodgates could well have opened. Instead we had a scrappy peeriod of play as  the visitors tried long balls into the area. Butler and Marquis were on hand with key clearances.

Bevis Mugabi had Yeovil's best chance, a header from a corner, which Butler blocked.

Butler was in the thick of it at the other end, too. He headed just wide from 10 yards wide after Coppinger's free-kick into the area, which followed a foul as goalscorer Williams ran towards the area.

Williams caused all sorts of problems, with a dangerous pull-back for Marquis poked just wide at the near post by the hard-working former Millwall man.

Marquis tried something similar himself but, under pressure from two visiting defenders, just stumbled and allowed them to clear.

Coppinger also went close after a neat move down the right wing. He cuts inside, but his low shot is too straight at Krysiak and the visiting keeper pulls off a comfortable low save.

A pause while Matty Blair received treatment from a heavy challenge, and the visitors enjoyed a good finish. Ryan Hedges and Eaves both went close, but Marosi was equal to both their efforts.

HALF-TIME: Rovers 1 Yeovil Town 0

There were no changes from either side at the break, with Marquis trying an early shot which bounced back off the legs of a visiting defender to safety.

Joe Wright had to duck down well to head away a Matt Butcher effort, before the game sprung back into life.

Rovers stepped up in search of a second goal, with Marquis going close with a header from another Coppinger free-kick, with Krysiak pulling off a great fingertip save to keep his side in it before Tommy Rowe poked the ball wide.

Then Coppinger showed them both how to do it with another sweet volley to double Rovers' lead.

That prompted changes for both sides, as the Glovers brought on new signing Izale McLeod for his debut in place of Eaves and Harry Middleton replaced the injured Mitchell Lund for Rovers.

But, before anyone could regroup, Yeovil had snatched one back when a ball into the area ended up with Hedges scrambling the ball home.

Rowe will feel he could have added a third for Rovers, as he glanced a header across goal from a Coppinger corner.

Mugabi and Coppinger were both booked after players from both sides clashed.

And Rowe again went close after Jordan Houghton's chipped pass from the edge of the area cut out the entire Yeovil defence, but Krysiak was again equal to it.

Yeovil's hopes of a comeback took a blow with Mugabi shown a second yellow after hauling down Williams down the left, prompting a late push from Rovers.

But the visitors could have levelled. Glovers debutant McLeod  got away from Joe Wright but his attempt to place the ball into the bottom-right corner was well wide, while a header from a corner shortly afterwards rested on the top of the netting.
Williams put the game to bed with eight minutes to go as he grabbed his second of the game.

Some lovely intricate play from Marquis and Coppinger down the right resulted in the latter firing the ball low across the goal, where Williams was waiting to fire home with a first-time right-footed shot.

Coppinger went off to a standing ovation shortly afterwards, with Liam Mandeville coming on for a run-out.

And Williams completed the hat-trick with his third in stoppage-time via a close-range header from Rowe's cross.
