Rovers shine at EFL Awards

9 April 2017

Rovers have picked up four prizes at the 2017 EFL Awards, with Darren Ferguson, Andy Butler, John Marquis and fan Paul Mayfield all recognised.

It capped a weekend of celebration for the club, who sealed promotion back to Sky Bet League One the day before the ceremony.

Ferguson was named boss of the Football Manager Team of the Season after guiding Rovers back to the third tier at the first attempt, to add to the Sky Bet League Two prize he had already won.

Marquis was recognised for the 26 goals he has contributed towards that promotion, being crowned Sky Bet League Two Player of the Season.

Butler was named PFA Community Player of the Year for his contribution to the Club Doncaster Academy and coaching our U12s, as well as player visits.

And one of the most moving moments in the evening say Rovers legend Paul Mayfield named EFL Supporter of the Year.

Paul is much loved among Rovers fans, and drew on the club for support when his partner Jill passed away suddenly within days of being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Marquis said: “It has been a fantastic season and I cannot express how much I have enjoyed it. I have been playing in a team that is doing really well, winning often and providing me with lots of chances to score.

"We have got over the line and got promoted and we want to win the league now.”
