Strachan praises unique Rovers

28 April 2017

Assistant manager Gavin Strachan believes that Rovers have broken a common cycle by being promoted back to Sky Bet League One at the first attempt.

After relegation last season, Rovers have hit back immediately to return to the third tier of English football and Strachan feels that the achievement should not be underestimated.

“The other teams that were relegated with us last year haven’t managed to bounce back as well as us, I think that shows how difficult it is to respond immediately,” he said.

“There aren’t many teams that have achieved what we have in the past few years and we’ve really broken the cycle.

“Winning is a habit, as is losing, we brought in winners in the summer and that helped us change the culture amongst the group here.”

Needing four points from their two remaining games to secure the Sky Bet League Two title, Rovers face play-off chasing Exeter City this weekend in their final fixture at the Keepmoat Stadium this season, and Strachan is confident they will get the job done.

“It’s a time of the season where everyone wants to be involved given what’s at stake, whoever plays they’ll be ready to go,” he added.

“Exeter are a good team with some good players, they can mix up formations throughout games so we have to be on the front foot.

“Whatever way it has to happen we’ll take it, in an ideal way we want it to win the league at home but we’re ready for every possible outcome.”

We face Exeter City on Saturday, where a win could take Rovers in touching distance of the Sky Bet League Two title, make sure you purchase your tickets for the final home game of the 2016/17 season by calling 01302 762 576 or from tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
