Hard work pays off for hat-trick hero Andy.

Andy Williams delighted in taking home the match ball from his first ever senior hat-trick on Saturday.

The 30 year old hit his first treble against his former employers, Yeovil Town, in a convincing 4-1 win which saw Rovers assume third place in the Sky Bet League Two table.

“Personally it was a great game for me but more importantly it was another three points for the lads and that puts us up to third in the league and we’re happy with that after five games,” he said.

“The early goal in a game hasn’t quite come and we made it difficult after going 1-0 up and stuttered a little bit but in the second half our dominance showed through and it was a good win in the end.

“The two 1-0 victories haven’t flattered us in any way – we could have scored more – and thankfully we did (against Yeovil).”

Williams and strike partner John Marquis have now scored six of Rovers’ nine league goals this campaign and it’s the hard work on the training pitch that is the key, apparently.

He said: “I do as much as I can every week. I was a bit disappointed with the last few games and, personally, the way I’ve been in front of goal.

“Me and John worked really hard this week, I think we stayed behind most days and thankfully that’s paid off. To be fair to John I don’t think he had many chances; he just worked his socks off for me which was nice!

“Its important when you’re going for promotion to get some momentum together and we’d probably take our form over five games.”
