Wright enjoying opportunities

28 April 2017

Joe Wright is ready to take his chance in the starting XI for Rovers’ final two games of the Sky Bet League Two campaign.

The defender has made a number of appearances during his debut season with the club, and is confident he can continue to improve as he deputises for the injured Mathieu Baudry.

“It’s a big opportunity for me I’ve just got to try and take that which means performing as well as I can whilst helping the team out,” he said.

“I’ve worked a lot with the coaching staff and I’ve improved on a number of things and we have a lot of meetings to discuss where I can get better.

“I’ve got a point to prove but so has everyone else, for whatever reason you always want to perform to either stay in the team or force your way into the manager’s thoughts.”

After three games without a win, Rovers face Exeter City this weekend knowing they must take four points from their last two games to guarantee going up as champions, and Wright believes it would be a shame if they didn’t secure top spot.

“The main focus has been trying to get over the line by winning the title and that’s what all the lads want to do,” he added.

“We need to get back too focusing on the task in hand, if we go back to how we were playing around a month ago then we’ll be fine.

“We’ve got a lot of experienced heads in the team, I don’t think nerves will come into it as a lot of the players here have been in this position before.”

We face Exeter City on Saturday, where a win could take Rovers in touching distance of the Sky Bet League Two title, make sure you purchase your tickets for the final home game of the 2016/17 season by calling 01302 762 576 or from tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
