Alcock: All Eyes on Rovers

24 November 2015

Loan defender prioritises Keepmoat side and hopes for derby joy.

Craig Alcock has said that his sole focus is on playing for Doncaster Rovers after recently signing on a one month loan deal from local rivals Sheffield United.

The versatile defender made his home debut in the 2-0 defeat to Rochdale at the weekend and is looking to hit back on Tuesday evening against Chesterfield.

“At the end of the day, footballers want to play football and if there’s an opportunity to do that then great and hopefully I can do well for Doncaster,” Alcock said.

“My priority at the minute is Doncaster, whatever happens happens and I’ll let that take care of itself because my job is to do well for Doncaster.

“Saturday hopefully was just a blip, a bit unfortunate, but we’ll pick ourselves up and go again.”

Rovers will welcome Dean Saunders back for the first time since he departed the Keepmoat Stadium in January 2013 but Alcock said it’s up to Rovers to make it a tough night for the Welshman and his Spireites side.

“We need to make sure that we’re on the front foot and hopefully make sure that it’s not a welcome return for him. We’re looking forward to it, creating chances and we’re hoping that we can take them on Tuesday,” he said.

“It’s important that we bounce back after Saturday where we didn’t quite get the rub of the green so its important that we come back on Tuesday with a good performance.

“(The league) is a battle. There’s the odd big teams here and there and you have some teams that start well but every week it’s a grind and its about concentration as much as ability and being able to dig in and grind wins out.”
