Ben Takes Over

1 February 2013

When Dean Saunders left for Wolves, he not only took assistant Brian Carey but also fitness coach Mal Purchase.

With Brian Flynn aided by Rob Jones taking the reins as part of the clubs succession planning strategy, the board looked at the position of fitness coach and had a replacement in mind.

Ben Rome is the man earmarked to continue the vital work that was being carried out by Mal. Ben is no stranger to the club having worked with the players for the past year and is well respected by the coaching staff and players alike.

Ben “Dean brought me into the club in September 2011 to work as a part of the rehabilitation side on a part time basis.

“Billy Sharp, who I had worked with at Sheffield United, recommended me initially to Dean. After the change of management I was asked to become full time and take over the fitness side working with physio Alex Dalton, on an interim basis.

“I had been involved three days a week with massage and rehabilitation of injured players. I have worked in fitness for seven years starting at Rotherham United then at Sheffield United and a bit at Notts County as well as starting my own business in gym work.

“They are a great set of lads here who train hard and work with me which is fantastic and I am enjoying every minute of it”
