Bittersweet Night for Dickov

4 March 2015

Gaffer delighted with his team's performance but gutted with the outcome.

Paul Dickov could not hide his burning disappointment that his Doncaster side did not hold on to three points against Preston North End on Tuesday night.

The South Yorkshire side looked to have completed a remarkable comeback after goals from Harry Forrester and Curtis Main turned the game in Rovers favour, before Jermaine Beckford’s last gasp finish salvaged a point for the hosts.

“After winning on Saturday a point here would have been good, but we’re disappointed because throughout the game I felt we were better,” Dickov said.

“We made the right decisions at the right times and we had the belief that we could go out there and win. With twelve games to go, it gives us some real confidence.

“We finished the half well and we told them to believe and they were magnificent in the second half.”

As disappointed as Dickov was to let two points slip through his grasp, the fact that his side had put a stop to Preston’s surge for the automatic places was not lost on the Scot.

“It’s not bad when you can bring [Kevin] Davies and Beckford off the bench and the last person you want it to fall to is Jermaine and it’s a great finish by him,” he said.

“We’ve given ourselves a fantastic chance with twelve games to go and we’d have loved to have won tonight but it’s a good result that we can build on.

“It will be a tough game going down there [Gillingham], we know that. A lot of teams go down there and come unstuck but we know that if we play like we have done tonight we’ve got a chance.”
