Captain calls on Rovers fans to back Rovers regardless.
Doncaster born defender Andy Butler has encouraged fans to get their season tickets before Tuesday’s ‘Early Bird’ deadline.Rovers supporters can secure their 15/16 ticket for just £299 and Butler – who used to watch the team at Belle Vue – says that the club are on the up.
“Being a local lad, I know the passion that the fans in this neck of the woods have,” said the 31 year old.
“I used to watch Rovers on the Popside when I was younger and I know the atmosphere that can be generated by the fans once they get going.
“Obviously the more people who buy, the better. The team didn’t turn up when the South Stand was full for the Peterborough game but the fans did and we need them there every week. If you look at the big teams, they’ve all got a ‘Kop’ as it used to be known which is packed out to spur the team on.”
Butler signed from South Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield United on a permanent basis and says he will be solely focussed on getting the three points when the sides scrap it out in a potential play-off six pointer at Bramall Lane on April 7th.
“We’ve definitely got the quality in the squad to go on a run and reach the play-offs, I’ve no doubts,” he said.
“I was at Wembley the other day watching my former club Walsall in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final against Bristol City and I want to be there as a player.
“The game against United will be a terrific battle and it’s a big game because it’s a team that’s up there fighting for the play-offs and we want to catch them, but to me it’s just another game.”
Paul Dickov has used no fewer than ten players aged 21 or under this season and Butler says that whether promotion is achieved or not, the club is in great hands.
“The future is boding really well for the club at the moment,” he said.
“I’ve been quite impressed with how many have had their opportunities and that’s because they’ve deserved it.
“I have a lot of time for the Mitchell Lunds, Billy Whitehouses, Lewis Fergusons, Harry Middletons and Liam Wakefields of this world because they put their heart and souls in to everything they do.”
