Brain Carey spoke to the gathered media ahead of the game on Saturday against Barnsley, and revealed that striker Billy Paynter had trained with the club today.
“I think we’re hoping to add him to the squad,” he said
“I don’t know where we are up to with it, he came in this morning and has taken part in the training session - hopefully he will be added to the squad.
“I don’t think he has had much game time with Leeds for one reason or another, but he would be a welcome addition to the squad and we’d be delighted for him to be here.
“James (Harper) has come in to just train with us for a week, again he’s probably having a look at us and we will be having a look at him.
“We are always looking to improve wherever we can, I can’t give you any names at the minutes because I don’t know for definite but we will always look to recruit where we can if we feel it would be a welcome addition to the squad – it’s our job to keep improving the team.”
With the departure of James O’Connor to Derby County yesterday, Brian spoke of the role he played at the club for so many years and wished him well for the future.
“I’m glad for him, he’s been in and out of the side whilst he’s been here but he’s done his bit for Doncaster Rovers - he’s been a great servant to the club.
“He’s got the opportunity to move on now and stay in the Championship so I’m delighted for him, he’s a really good guy he came in everyday with a fantastic attitude regardless of his own circumstances and did things properly like a proper professional would do.”
Looking ahead to the game on Saturday, Brian was hoping the team can replicate the second half performance from Tuesday night, against Barnsley
“We’ve looked at certain things in different games and gone about different ways of playing so far in the pre-season games. That will probably continue against Barnsley on Saturday and we will be looking to see if we can continue where we left off in the second half against Hull.
“What has been good about the games so far is that they were all from the local area which has been good for the supporters.
