Club up for FL Awards

15 March 2016

Rovers nominated for two awards already by Football League.

Doncaster Rovers are delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for the Nickelodeon Family Club of the Year at the 2016 Football League Awards.

As well as this, defender and proud Doncastrian Andy Butler (below) has been nominated for PFA Player in the Community alongside former Rover George Friend of Middlesbrough and Danny Grainger of Carlisle United.

Rovers Marketing and Communications Manager Ryan Murrant: “To be shortlisted for the Family Club of The Year award is wonderful news for this football club. We, as an operational team, can’t control things that happen on the big green rectangle but we can away from it.

“This recognition is evidence that we are doing the right things to build and develop the next generation of Rovers fans and that is a huge credit to every member of staff at this club and of course our wonderful owners.

“A huge well done to Andy Butler for his nomination too. That man does so much for the club and the community, a lot of it in his own time, and we hope that we can have a double celebration on the night in Manchester.”

The annual awards ceremony, which will be held in Manchester on Sunday 17th April, celebrates on and off pitch excellence across the League’s 72 clubs.

This year there are a total of 10 categories, with shortlists for four categories announced so far. A total of 21 clubs have made the initial shortlists, with ourselves, Charlton Athletic, Middlesbrough all leading the way with two nominations each.

There will also be awards on the night for the Mitre Goal of the Year, Capital One Supporter of the Year, Sky Bet Players of the Year, Football League Young Player of the Year, the Sir Tom Finney Award and Contribution to League Football.

Alongside these there will be a new category this year – the Football Manager Team of the Season – that will see 11 players and a manager from across the three divisions recognised for their performances in the 2015/16 campaign.

Fans will also be given a chance to have a say themselves in one of the award categories, with voting for the Mitre Goal of the Year shortlist taking place in conjunction with Channel 5’s ‘Football League Tonight’ show from this weekend.
