Copps Commits!

4 March 2016

Record breaker and Rovers captain has shown his commitment to both Darren Ferguson and the club by signing a new contract.

The 35 year old has signed a new one year deal which will keep him playing football at Rovers until the end of the 2016/17 season.

‘Copps’ signed for Rovers in 2004 from Exeter City and has been a huge part of the clubs success for over twelve years, becoming a ‘legend’ amongst the fans.

Earlier this season when we faced Stalybridge Celtic in the FA Cup Coppinger made history. Stepping out in a Rovers shirt for the 469th time, he became the clubs all-time leading appearance maker.

Since then he has been a regular under Darren Ferguson, and as well as captaining the side currently has a fantastic 484 appearances to his name.

On signing his new deal, Copps becomes the first player in Rovers’ history to remain at the club for 13 seasons.

You can watch a full interview with James Coppinger on signing a new deal later this afternoon on Rovers Player.
