Flynn:'They Will Be Difficult Opponents'

15 February 2013

Rovers Player caught up with manager Brain Flynn ahead of the trip to Broadfield Stadium on Monday.

Tuesday evening’s goalless draw against MK Dons ensured Rovers remained in second place in the league, one point behind new league leaders Bournemouth.

Brian revealed that he has earmarked the game at Bournemouth as the game where Rovers promotion charge will really start to pick up pace.

“As long as we are where we are now, when we go to Bournemouth on the 9th of March, which will give us ten games to go, we will accelerate – we will put our foot down, turn the gas on and sprint away.

“That is the most important 10 game, when you’re up in this situation, if you hit some real top form you can achieve what you want to achieve.

“I must admit the pressure of being at the top is fantastic, I love this type of pressure.

“The pressure we are under is to stay at the top and that is better than the pressure you are under at the other end of the table.

“There’s a strong belief in the dressing room, not only on matchday’s but at the training ground every day.

“I’m in amongst them on the training pitch day in day out, which is important, and I set them certain standards; they have to test each other to help themselves to improve.”

Brian is expecting an equally tight game on Monday evening, as was seen against MK Dons on Tuesday evening, however he is confident Rovers can ‘come up with the goods’ as they did in his first game in charge at Stevenage.

“Generally their home form has been good,” he said

“We have had them watched three times in the last month and they will be difficult opponents. They’ve got a good system and they play to that system well.

“Our away form has been very good, we need to count Bury as a one off and get back to winning games away from home.

“I think the game will be tight, like the other night [against MK Dons], there were very few chances for both teams.

“I think it will be difficult out there but we have the strength and resolve to do well.

“The basis of any good team is how you defend, and when chances come having the ability to take them. Stevenage was a classic example it was a tight game but we came up with the goods at the vital time

“We have got pace, when we break forward, and we have got good counter attack ability which is important.

“I encourage the players to get forward, whether we are at home or away I want a minimum of three players in the box.

“They have got the licence to do that because I know we have got the energy and a back four to deal with any counter attacks.”

On additions to the playing squad Brian revealed he has contacted clubs regarding various players and is waiting for developments.

“I’m awaiting return calls from a number of managers in term of requests I’ve made; it’s literally a case of wait and see.

“With the situation with forwards, if there was a priority that position would be number 1.

“I’d like to have 2 new players in by Crawley, if David Syers and Iain Hume are fit then I may not do it this week – in the worst case scenario if both of them are not fit then I would like to bring two more in.”
