Dean Adds Experienced Harper

17 August 2012

Doncaster Rovers are delighted to announce the signing of experienced midfielder James Harper.

Harper joins the club on an initial one year deal, subject to paperwork.

Having been on trial with the club during the pre-season period, James has now signed a permanent deal to keep him with the club for at least one season.

Harper played two games whilst on with Rovers, the first being the 2-2 draw against Championship side Barnsley. He also featured in the game against local side Gainsborough Trinity a few days later.

The former Reading midfielder comes in to a new look midfield after the additions of David Cotterill and David Syers and will add experience to the central midfield following the departure of Brian Stock to Burnley.

Speaking to Rovers Player upon signing, Harper revealed he was ‘pleased to be here’ and is looking forward to the season ahead: ‘I’ve been here a couple of weeks training and played in a couple of games so it’s good to have signed – I’m pleased to be here.’

‘When the gaffer and Brian Carey say they want you down her then you’ve half got your foot in the door already. There’s a decent set of lads here, it’s really a Championship team, and I know we got relegated, but there’s a good team here.

‘The gaffer said he wanted me down here, and when someone puts their faith in you it’s nice. There were lots of clubs, this summer that said they were not sure – when someone says that they want you, it gives you a little lift.’

The full interview with James will be available on Rovers Player soon.
