Darren Ferguson could not hide his disappointment as Rovers search for their first win since early January continued.One goal in either half from local rivals Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park was enough to ensure a third straight loss for Rovers.
“It was not good enough – it’s clear to the eye,” started the Scot.
“We started the game well, Lynden (Gooch) had a chance which he should have scored but I think from their first attack we concede and they got on top of us.
“We lost too many individual battles – far too many – and second balls, all the stuff we’d spoken about and it became very difficult for us.
“It’s all ifs and buts at the moment which is no good to anyone; it was a good opportunity, probably our best actually.
“It came from a counter attack but then from their first attack we go behind. They're a very aggressive team, Scunthorpe, they press very well and we knew we had to match that and I don’t think we did.”
Ferguson continued and, in the process, apologised to Rovers supporters who had travelled in good numbers up the M18.
“I tell you who I let down for and that’s the fans,” he said.
“We spoke about the following we’d have and it was actually more than I thought – we filled the end – and I’ve just spoken to the players there about the fact that we’ve let them down but I think they’ve let me down tonight as well.
“It annoys me (the lack of chances created) because I would never set a team up not to create chances and tonight was the same but we’re just not creating anywhere near enough chances and the bottom line is we have to find a way of winning games because sometimes it will get to a point where draws aren’t enough.”
