Dickov Pre-MK Dons

24 October 2014

Gaffer looks to get one over on his friend when Doncaster face high flyers.

Paul Dickov has said that MK Dons are arguably the best footballing side in the division but has not ruled out his side’s chances of a win when the teams meet at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday.

The Dons have never won in Doncaster and manager Karl Robinson is yet again subject to speculation linking him with other football clubs.

“He gets linked with every job, he’s done a great though so it’s deserved,” Dickov opened.

“They’re a good team, Karl's a big friend of mine and they’re probably the best footballing team in the division. They’re expansive and like to play from the back but we feel we can get something from the game.

“Whenever we’ve played teams that are the best footballing teams, that’s where our best performances have come from and it’s brought the best out of us. We’ve struggled when we come up against the teams which are up and at us.”

The Scot has looked to strengthen the spine of his side with the return of Curtis Main and the arrival of loanee Andy Butler, yet Aston Villa ‘keeper Jed Steer looks to be returning to his parent club.

“We’ll be speaking to Villa next week and it looks like he’ll be going back after the Bradford game. We knew that it might happen and we’ve got a contingency plan in place. Jed’s done great for us, he’s got better as it’s gone on but we’ve targeted somebody and we’re hopeful we can get something done,” he said.

“We’re always looking [at new additions] but it’s not always that easy. Different factors happen, the parent club might change their mind, the money might be too much, the agents get involved and things haven’t happened because it hasn’t been possible.

“We’ve had two disappointing results and we won’t get away from that but we’ve got to keep the players believing. Although we let them know when they’ve done something wrong, we have to keep the belief so we know we’re capable as we did it not so long ago.”
