Dickov prioritises three points

24 December 2014

Paul Dickov could be forgiven for getting a little greedy this Christmas.

Fresh from a festive fright of promotion chasing Swindon Town on Saturday, the Doncaster Rovers manager is eyeing a tantalising treble.

The Scot, who chases just his second home win of the season against Coventry City on Boxing Day, has also offered contracts to defenders Reece Wabara and Luke McCullough and is “hopeful” that they will extend their Keepmoat Stadium stay.

“Reece and Luke have both been offered contracts before the games coming up because we want it tying up as quickly as possible,” Dickov stated.

“We’ve spoken to Andy Butler too, which is slightly different because of his parent club but I’m hopeful with all three.

“They’ve all said that they’re enjoying their time here as part of a solid back five.”

Dickov prioritised three points against his old friend, and City manager, Steven Pressley, when Rovers return to home soil on Friday, however.

“It’s a crucial game, which we want to win, purely because of the home form we want to address and make sure we get back-to-back wins and push for the top half by the New Year,” levelled the 42 year old.

“It’s really frustrating for us all and we had a meeting with the players where I said there was no rhyme or reason sometimes, other than the only way to stop people talking is to go out there and win.

“We’ve tried changing it and it’s not working, but the only way to put it to bed is to win, but we take a lot of encouragement from Saturday. We alter little bits and pieces, we’ve tried everything, trust me.

“We’ve got make sure we’re not too ‘gung-ho’ and there’s a tendency to do that at home and we leave ourselves susceptible to the counter-attack, which is what’s happened lately, but if you can’t win at home, make sure you don’t lose!”
