Dickov 'Support will be key'

24 February 2015

Paul Dickov has praised the fans for their support recently and is keen to get back to winning ways, starting with tonight at the Keepmoat.

First team manager Paul Dickov is keen to draw a line under Saturday's defeat to Port Vale and continue the teams good run of form at the Keepmoat, starting tonight.

“Saturday was disappointing; we’ve been really good especially away from home and I'm disappointed in the manor we conceded the goals.

"We’ve got to give Port Vale, credit first half they played the conditions better then us and we didn’t have the cutting edge in the final third that we have had recently. You put that with the mistakes we made at the other end, it doesn’t hold well.

"But we’ve got to put that behind us now, after a win we draw a line under it and after a defeat we do the same”

Despite the heavy defeat to Port Vale on Saturday, Dickov has given his full backing to the players.

"The players have been fantastic recently, I’ve got a lot of faith in the boys that are here" he said.

"After Walsall came here and beat us, we knew that the run into the end of the season was going to be difficult. We know there's no way we're going  to win every game, it's a difficult league.

“I’ve said all along that you don’t finish sixth in February. What we have to do now is make sure that teams don’t get away from us and that we hang in there, because as I’ve said we’ve been in good form. Before Saturday it was one defeat in eleven games, So it's important that we get back to what we're good at. Getting the basics right will simply see us win more games”.

"We go again tonight. Bristol are the league leaders and we gave them a really good game when they came here in the cup. We want to get back on track quick."

Dickov went on to say how much of an effect the home crowd can have at the Keepmoat Stadium, following last Tuesday's dramatic late victory over Crewe Alexandra.

"Something that has picked up is our home form," he said.

"Last Tuesday night against Crewe the atmosphere was fantastic and that helps when you get a late winner.

"The fans are right behind the players at the minute because they see what they are trying to do and it’ll be a tough game tonight but back to back wins is what we have got to aim for.

"Their support will be key. They have been great- they've been patient with us I think they understood how difficult it was at the start of the season was as well.

But I’ve said all along that if they see the players going out there and giving it a go they will back them all the way because that’s all they want to see."
