Doncaster Rovers are pleased to announce the signing of highly rated midfielder Mark Duffy.
Duffy has signed from local rivals Scunthorpe United for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal, subject to clearance.
After two unsuccessful bids for the 27 year midfield man Rovers returned to the Iron with an improved offer which was accepted, leading to Duffy finally becoming a Rovers player.
The midfielder was one of the stars of Scunthorpe’s poor season and manager Brian Laws expected that he would find it hard to keep hold of his star man after relegation.
Mark was born in Liverpool and played for both his home town club (Liverpool FC) and also for Wrexham at youth level before dropping in to non-league with Vauxhall Motors, Prescot Cables and Southport before joining Morecambe initially on loan in 2009.
He went on to make 68 appearances for Morecambe and scored 7 goals, prompting interest from Scunthorpe United.
Mark joined Scunthorpe United, then in the Championship, on 20 January 2011, for an undisclosed fee, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract.
Mark made his Rovers debut this afternoon after his second half substitute appearance against SPL side Motherwell FC.
Duffy made 102 appearances for the ‘Iron’, scoring 10 goals in his three seasons with them coming second only to Rovers’ winger David Cotterill in last season’s assist table despite relegation.
