Friend Joins ‘Boro

30 July 2012

Defender George Friend has today joined Championship side Middlesbrough on a 3 year deal for an undisclosed fee.

George, who signed from former Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, has been the subject of interest from a number of Championship clubs but has decided to join Tony Mowbray’s  ‘Boro after travelling up to the north east last weekend.

George was a spectator at the Sheffield Wednesday game on Saturday and used the occasion to say his final goodbyes to members of the playing squad and staff.

During his time with Rovers, George played over 60 games at both left-back and centre-back and scored one goal along the way.

Starting as captain last term, Friend put in a number of eye-catching performances which led to him being named the Supporters Player of the Year for the 2011/12 season.

Everybody at Doncaster Rovers would like to thank George for his time with the club, and wish all the best for the future.
