Captain Coppinger "disappointed" in second round JPT exit.
James Coppinger admitted that Doncaster’s second round Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat to League Two York City was a bitter pill to swallow.Verdaine Oliver’s goals early in both halves settled the tie at a rain soaked Bootham Crescent.
The Rovers captain said: “We’re disappointed obviously to get beat.
“The manner of the goals we’ve conceded too – from nothing – is frustrating because we left ourselves a mountain to climb and could have got back in to it but we gave them a second goal, especially on the back of a good performance on Saturday.
“We said before the game don't let them get off to a good start; don’t give them any momentum etc.
“I’ve been there before when you’re playing a higher league club and everyone raises their game even though they’re under a little bit of pressure.
“You don’t want to give them a kick-start but we did but fair play to them they passed well, pressed us and defended their box well and made it hard to break them down.”
In what could prove to be interim head coach, Rob Jones’ final game in caretaker charge, the veteran midfielder was full of praise and admiration for the player / coach.
“It's been brilliant the last three weeks, we've put things in place, people are looking really good and started to score goals but its not happened (against York),” said Coppinger.
“We have to go forward and we need to look to the next league game.
“There's been a massive improvement on and off the pitch. He (Jones) has done an amazing job, he works tirelessly and has the clubs best interests at heart.”
