Furman Capture Confirmed

12 July 2013

Doncaster Rovers are pleased to announce the permanent signing of former Oldham Athletic captain Dean Furman.

After spending the latter part of last season on loan at the Keepmoat, Dean has now joined the club on a 2-year deal.

The Cape Town born South Africa international helped Rovers to the npower league one title last season with some impressive performances in central midfield towards the end of the campaign.

Manager Paul Dickov made Furman his captain whilst at Oldham and now the pair have re-united after the confirmation of his arrival.

Dean began his footballing career at Chelsea as a youth team player; however failure to breakthrough into the first team saw his move north of the border to then SPL side Rangers.

In 2007 Furman captained the Rangers U19’s to a Scottish Youth Cup Final victory over Old Firm rivals Celtic and was subsequently handed a two-year professional contract with the Scottish giants, however at the end of his first season decided to return to England signing a loan deal with Bradford City.

After a successful initial six month loan deal with the Bantams Furman extended his stay at Valley Parade until the end of the season.

After returning to Rangers at the end of his loan spell, Furman rejected the chance of a new deal at Ibrox instead signing a three year deal at League One Oldham Athletic.

An impressive strike against Notts ensured Furman received the Football League Goal of the Year 2011. A string of impressive saw then Oldham Athletic manager Paul Dickov appoint Furman as his captain during the 2011/12 season.

In March 2013 Rovers took Furman on loan until the end of the season during which he helped the club secure a return to the Championship.
