Historic Home Kit

21 May 2016

As we count down to the launch of the 2016/17 Doncaster Rovers official home kit, doncasterroversfc.co.uk is taking a look at kits that will go down in history as having significance upon the club.

Fans have until 23:59 on 10th June to pre-order the new kit

Season: 2003/04
Supplier: Carlotti

Despite the bookies tipping Rovers for an instant return to non-league, the club surpassed the expectations of most – including themselves!

Some wise recruitment from manager Dave Penney saw the arrival of Yeovil ace Michael McIndoe and imposing striker Leo Fortune-West to compliment the smaller Gregg Blundell.  Blundell (above) would poach 18 league goals in a fruitful campaign that saw Rovers romp to the Division 3 title and were handily placed after winning 11 out of 12 games during the autumn months.

Belle Vue was turned in to something of a fortress and Lincoln City were the only team after the turn of the year to inflict a home defeat on Doncaster; just their second of the whole season.

Chris Brown and Adebayo Akinfenwa provided the muscle and firepower to see Rovers over the line and return to the third tier for the first time in close to 30 years. After an Easter Monday win over Cambridge United at a packed Belle Vue sealed promotion, the Yorkshire side pipped neighbours Hull City to the title with a game to spare.
