Eighteen year old left-back James Husband has been handed a new contract at the club after impressing manager Dean Saunders since making his first team debut against Middlesbrough at the end of last season.

Husband, who is one of six graduates from last season’s Youth Alliance Cup winning under 18s side, impressed during his time with the Youth setup and was rewarded with his first professional contract at the age of seventeen.

The cultured defender was given his full league debut against Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena after an assured performance against Middlesbrough the previous match, before making his home debut on the final day against Ipswich Town.

Husband continued where he left off from last season putting in impressive performances in pre-season and in the Capital One Cup victory over York City which has led to him being handed a new improved deal.

James has signed a contract that will keep him with Rovers until 2015, upon signing Husband spoke of his delight to be at Doncaster Rovers.

‘It feels brilliant,’ he said

‘We’ve been working on sorting the deal out for the last couple of months; I’m really happy here so I’m glad it’s all sorted now.

‘I’m getting my chance here so I’ve got no complaints, I’ve played in a few games which is a good experience and I have learnt a lot from those games.

‘I enjoy coming in and playing football and having a laugh as well. It’s good that there is five other lads that have come up through the youth team with me, we know each other really well having played in the Under 18s for
the past 2 years – it’s good that we have made the transition from the youth team to the first team together.’
