"I had to trust the manager" - Keegan

Rovers midfielder Paul Keegan has said that he had “to trust” his manager Paul Dickov when it came to signing a new three year contract with the Club.

Rovers midfielder Paul Keegan has said that he had “to trust” his manager Paul Dickov when it came to signing a new three year contract with the Club.

Previously on just a one month deal, the Irish enforcer spoke exclusively to www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk about what it meant to extend his stay in South Yorkshire.

“The manager said to bear with him and he had to manoeuvre a few things and he told me to trust him. I’ve always thought he was a man of his word and he’s come through for me,” said Keegan.

“I’m delighted to get it done. We’ve had a reasonably good start to the season and what with the result on Tuesday night, I’m happy to be here and enjoying my time here. I think the manager always wanted to keep me and it was just a case of moving finances around.

“I really enjoyed last year as well and obviously the relegation wasn’t a good point but I thought we played some good stuff and I think the manager plays a good style of football here.”

The 30 year old arrived in 2011 under Sean O’Driscoll and Keegan - now the third longest serving Rovers player in the current squad – says he feels right at home.

“The Club have looked after me well. When I first came here I got a couple of injuries but the club in Sean O’Driscoll and John Ryan stood by me so I’m happy to stay here, it’s a good club and a nice place to be,” he said.

“We’ve got a good group of lads and I think its important to have a core of players that have been here a while and know what the clubs about.

“It means we can blood the youngsters and show them how important it is to play for Doncaster and to do well for Doncaster and we wont accept sub-standard performances or training and, when you have that core, you can influence the other players and hopefully we can make sure that this club does well.”
