Jones Injury Woes Over

29 July 2014

Captain's comeback is on and he says it's "all or nothing" with him.

Club Captain Rob Jones has today revealed to www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk that he has received the ‘all clear’ to resume full training following his serious neck operation.

The centre back has been out of action for close to nine months and said he was like “a kid on Christmas morning” when he was informed of the news.

“Having the Captain out of the team for such a long time isn't great. I didn’t expect the results I got given but I’ll take them with both hands,” he said.

“It's incredible when you’ve been out for nearly a year and you dont really see it coming to an end in a positive way so to go in to his room and the surgeon to have that positive news which I’ve been waiting for, for quite some time is great.”

Jones, who signed in the summer of 2012 from Sheffield Wednesday, lifted the 12/13 League 1 trophy said he would “love to be involved at Yeovil” and lead the side out when Rovers get their 14/15 campaign underway against the Glovers in less than a fortnight.

“I’ve got the first game of the season in two weeks and I’ve got to try and be ready for that and if not that then as soon as possible after that.

“All I want to do is play football and I haven’t been able to do that for the last year. I don’t like watching pre-season games so hopefully I can be back involved in those and try and make a difference."

The 34 year old explained that he wants to lead by example as usual, but any hint of him “going steady” just wouldn’t be ‘The Rob Jones Way’.

“I’ve been told three or four times to go steady but I think if you see me I’ll be heading balls and what not. It's not my way at all, I’m all in or not at all but I’ve got to look at the bigger picture.

“We all have a good rapport with each other - Captain or not - and I expect off them what they expect off me so if you fall down in any way, shape or form I’ll let you know and likewise I’d like to know,” he finished.
