Jones looking to the future

4 September 2014

Rob Jones took to the dugout for the first time this season in his new role as Development Head Coach.

Doncaster Rovers Development earned a draw against local side Askern Villa as Rovers captain Rob Jones prepared to start his season in charge.

“I enjoyed it,” Jones said.

“It’s a good learning curve for both me and the boys.

“It got a bit tasty at times but the majority of the lads will be a lot better off for it.

“It was a very physical game which might not be something they’re used to but some haven’t played 90 minutes this season so they will be better for getting that under their belt.

“The work rate, work ethic, drive and determination was really pleasing for me so we’ve got something to hold on to and move forward with.”

Jones went on to say how much he enjoyed being a part of the coaching team and giving something back to the club.

“I love it,” he said.

“I had a little taste two years ago and it’s what I want to do when I finally decide enough’s enough on the pitch.

“It’s good for me and I have to credit the gaffer who has given me this opportunity.

“At times I wanted to get out there and join in but it’s good to give something back to the kids, and that’s the most important thing.

“The whole point is to get these boys ready for first team opportunities- that’s the prize and if I can help them in any way possible then that’s my job done.”
