Rob Jones could not hide his delight at securing three points against Barnsley in the South Yorkshire derby.Jones watched on as Richard Chaplow smashed home an injury time winner to preserve Doncaster’s unbeaten home run, which stretches back to early April.
“Did we earn it? Yes, we did from start to finish,” Jones enthused.
“I thought they were terrific from start to finish. It was a scrappy opening, a bit cagey and a bit nervous and like chess match but we came out in the second half and gave it a right good go.
“I’m delighted for them because they’ve listened and learned and done what I’ve wanted them to do.”
Jones paid homage to the largest home crowd of the season to date and hinted at a potential change in the side’s fortunes.
“After the injury time goal in midweek, they (the fans) came out in their droves – even when Barnsley equalised. It was a payback for the supporters after the last 5 or 6 weeks,” he said.
“You can say its been coming – should have beaten Oldham and Swindon perhaps – and I’ve said it’s not been too far away and we got our rewards because we were the better side.
“I went for it, as I want to. I want to excite people and play with a passion and a purpose and on the front foot.
“It’s a place where our players want to play and the fans drive us on in their droves and we actually should be winning more.
“It (the managerial appointment) is someone else’s decision to make. I said I’d give it 100% and try and stamp my authority. Have I improved performances and results? Yes.”
