“Marquee” Striker Arrives

13 June 2016

Striker John Marquis becomes seventh summer signing.

Doncaster Rovers have finally landed their man John Marquis on a two year deal from Millwall.

While on loan at Northampton Town last season, Marquis hit 6 goals in the final 16 games to help the Cobblers to the League Two title, and has now moved permanently to South Yorkshire following the expiration of his contract at the New Den.

The forward, who today completed his transfer to Keepmoat Stadium, strengthens the attacking options available to first team manager Darren Ferguson.

Ferguson said: “John has been on our radar for quite a while now and we're glad to get this signing over the line - the squad is now really starting to take shape.

“He’s a tireless worker who leads the line well and doesn’t give defenders a moments rest. He’s a good age and we’re hoping that his move here can provide him with a new challenge.

“John’s experience of success at this level with Northampton could prove vital and we’re delighted to have him on board.”

Marquis, who came through the Lions academy, has previously scored against Rovers (for Gillingham) and has a total of 30 career goals in 157 appearances.

The twenty-four year old follows Tommy Rowe, Matty Blair, Ross Etheridge, Mathieu Baudry, Joe Wright and Gary McSheffrey in to the Keepmoat Stadium.

Marquis will more than likely feature in the recently announced pre-season games against Premier League Middlesbrough and Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United in July.
