McCullough Deal Confirmed

25 July 2013

Doncaster Rovers Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of former Manchester United defender Luke McCullough.

McCullough, who has represented Northern Ireland at various age groups, had been on trial with Paul Dickov’s side since the start of the pre-season.

After impressing in the training sessions and friendly games that he has taken part in, manager Paul Dickov has decided to secure Luke’s services on permanent basis.

McCullough, who has signed a two-year deal at Keepmoat Stadium, started his footballing career in his hometown of Portadown playing for local team Lockhall Youth. He then moved on to Dungannon Swifts where at the age of fifteen he was already representing the club in the first team.

After impressing at Dungannon, Luke went onto represent Northern Ireland where he attracted interest from scouts representing English Premier League giants Manchester United.

After weekly trips to England for various trials and training sessions Luke made the move across to England signing for the Red Devils Academy at the age of sixteen.

Luke’s progression continued whilst at United and he went on to captain the Academy side throughout the 2011/12 campaign.

Upon joining the club Luke told doncasterroversfc.co.uk “I heard Doncaster were interested in taking a look at me so I came across and I’ve not looked back since - I’ve really enjoyed every minute that I have been here.

“Pre-season has been tough but as the manager has said it will give us a good base to build upon going into the season.

“The manager seems to have a good plan and wants the boys to keep improving.

“The rest of the lads have been very friendly and have made me feel very welcome – there’s a good team spirit here.”
