Paul Dickov Confirmed As Manager

Mon 20 May 2013

Doncaster Rovers Football Club is pleased to announce that Paul Dickov has been appointed manager of the club.

After extensive talks and interviews with various high quality applicants, Rovers’ owners and Chief Executive Gavin Baldwin have concluded the search for a new manager and have confirmed that former Oldham Athletic manager Paul Dickov is the correct person to move Doncaster Rovers forward.

An eighteen point criteria was set to identify the best possible candidate for the role. These criteria covered a whole range of aspects of the club in addition to the football. After completing the interview process, the board were in agreement that Paul was the best person to put their plans into action.

Beginning his playing career with Arsenal, Dickov helped the club win the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1994. However, due to the talents available to manager George Graham he found first team football hard to come by.

After loan spells with Luton Town and Brighton and Hove Albion, Dickov eventually signed a permanent deal with Manchester City where he went on to make over 150 appearances.

Spells at Leicester City, Blackburn Rovers, Crystal Palace, Blackpool, Derby County and Leeds United followed before he agreed to take the hot seat at League One side Oldham Athletic after the departure of former Rovers manager Dave Penney.

Dickov’s Oldham side recorded a shock victory over Premier League outfit Liverpool FC in the fourth round of the FA Cup, before he handed in his resignation just 6 days later.

Former Scotland International Dickov replaces Brian Flynn as manager of the club after the Welshman had overseen Rovers’ return to the second tier of English football.
