Peterson Out to Prove Point

7 August 2014

Nineteen year old wants success with Doncaster.

Striker Alex Peterson has set himself the target of getting in to Paul Dickov’s starting XI once the season gets underway and, crucially, staying there.

Peterson, a product of the Rovers youth set up, was recently handed a one year contract extension which he admitted he was “thrilled” to sign.

“I’m delighted to sign a new contract with the club after being here for so long and doing what I did last year. Its great to be given another chance to show what I can do,” he said.

“I’d like to be challenging for a first team place. The gaffer showed if you work hard and do everything right then he’ll give you the chance to play first team football regardless of how old you are and I’ll be looking to take advantage of that and really kick on.”

Peterson made a handful of first team appearances in the Championship last season and that has whetted the appetite for a repeat this time around.

“It’s a big step up from youth team to the Championship – physically and mentally – but I think the experiences I had last year will help me massively this year in terms of being prepared for the physical side of it and fitness levels.

“To sign players like Nathan Tyson shows what direction we’re heading in. Nathan’s an experienced player and he can still do it at this level and he’s a great signing. Hopefully he can show me different techniques and skills and he can work on my weaknesses and tell me how I can improve.”
