Preview: York v DRFC

6 October 2015

Tuesday 6th October 2015, Johnstone's Paint Trophy R2, Bootham Crescent.

Doncaster Rovers will have to defeat an old friend in Russ Wilcox if they are to progress to the third round of this season’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Wilcox, who made close to 100 appearances for Rovers during his playing career, is in his first full season in charge of Sky Bet League Two outfit York City having departed Scunthorpe United almost a year ago to the day.

The Minstermen have been struggling somewhat in the fourth tier and find themselves in 18th place without a win in their last five outings.

Rovers, by contrast, have improved of late and will be boosted by a thrilling 2-1 win over Barnsley at the weekend; one of four Yorkshire derbies in four weeks!

The pair met as recently as last season – in the League Cup first round – where a late long range strike from Harry Forrester proved to be the only goal of the game and saw the visitors to Bootham Crescent progress.

Meetings on the River Ouse have provided Doncaster with plenty of joy over the years; their last defeat came 12 years ago when Darren Dunning’s penalty settled a nervy affair.

TEAM NEWS: Gary MacKenzie will serve the third game of his three match suspension. Rob Jones (injured) and Luke McCullough (international) will miss out. Aaron Taylor-Sinclair, Oscar Gobern Harry Forrester, Cameron Stewart, Paul Keegan and fringe players are all vying for starting spots.
