Elland Road, Leeds

Rovers young u21 side under the management of Rob Jones play Leeds United at Elland Road with Lewis Ferguson, Billy Whitehouse and Alex Peterson the only first team squad players in the starting line-up. The rest of the side are from the youth side as Paul Dickov looks to the young lads to show their talent.

Rovers started well spending time in the Leeds half in the early minutes with a couple of teasing crosses from Whitehouse on the Rovers left causing problems in the Leeds defence.

However, on 10 minutes, a cross from the Leeds right was met at the far post by MONTENEGRO with a firm header into the net.

The Rovers reply came six minutes later when a cross from Ferguson on the right was met in the middle by Mandeville with a good header from ten yards but it went just over the bar.

In the 21st minute Leeds were awarded a free kick on the right side line of the penalty area. Adryan, a Brazilian midfielder, took the kick and rattled the near post before going out for a goalkick.

Two minutes on and Linley went down the Rovers right to the byline before hitting a low cross to the near post where Paul McKay stabbed wide.

The 29th minute brought a second goal to the home team when THOMPSON received in a central position 25yards out and rifled low in the bottom corner of the net.

On the half hour a fierce drive from Mandeville from distance was tipped round the post by Cairns for a corner to the Rovers.

Rovers approach work was good but unfortunately for them they could not get a clear sight of goal. In particular a cracking drive from Ferguson was blocked.

With a lead established, the home side began to turn on the style with clever flicks and good passing giving Hunt a crack at goal from the right side of the area that Iveson could only beat out at the near post.

In the first minute of added time a clever flick from Montenegro took out the defenders giving ADRYAN the chance to shoot into the bottom corner giving the keeper no chance.

Four minutes into the second half and Leeds first incursion into the Rovers half produced a fourth goal for the home side. HUNT received the ball to the right of goal some 15yards out, swivelled and hit a left footer high into the far corner of the net.

The 56th minute brought a good build up down the Rovers left, with Whitehouse getting in a good cross to the far post where Head half volleyed into the side netting.

On the hour a quick break by Leeds following a Rovers attack found the Rovers with three defenders facing four forwards. The ball was threaded through for DAWSON to slam into the net from close range.

Two minutes later Rovers were short again at the back and MONTENEGRO added a sixth goal.

Rovers tried hard to keep the ball in the Leeds half by pushing men forward but the Leeds defence held them and were quick to break giving Iveson a torrid time in the last quarter of the game but he was equal to the task, saving well on a number of occasions.
