Foundation Friday: Walking Football in FA Cup Adventure

Participants of the walking football programme, co-ordinated by the Club Doncaster Foundation have been on an FA Cup adventure of their own.

The FA People’s Cup 2016 kicked off over the weekend of 22-24 January 2016 with over 4000 teams and 34,000 amateur players beginning their quest for glory, including the walking football team established thanks to the Club Doncaster Foundation programme- Retro Rovers.

The tournament is a national five-a-side competition open to all ages with the focus on enjoyment and bringing people and communities together through the power of football.

Retro Rovers competed in the walking football category of the competition in Hull on Sunday 24th January and although the team did not qualify for the next round of the competition, the side gave a good account of themselves and thoroughly enjoyed the occasion winning one, drawing two and losing one of their four matches.

Walking Football is a slower paced version of the beautiful game aimed at getting people back involved with football.

The Club Doncaster Foundation sessions are aimed at (but not limited to) over 50s and you can be sure of a warm welcome.

Andrew Sheldrake community coordinator stated:  “It is fantastic to see the game developing in Doncaster and seeing everyone enjoying the sessions so much.

“The quality of football is improving all the time and many new friendships have been formed as a result of our programmes.”

Sessions take place on Monday’s from 11:30am – 12:30pm at Doncaster Dome and Wednesday’s between 6pm – 7pm at Club Doncaster Academy at a cost of £2 per player.

Every player that attends 5 Wednesday sessions will receive a free ‘Retro Rovers’ training t-shirt, featuring our new professionally designed badge (image attached if you wish to use this).
