Rovers see off stiff competition to secure star striker’s signature.

Doncaster Rovers can today proudly announce the signing of striker Andy Williams on a three year contract.

The front man top scored for League One play off runners up Swindon Town last term with 22 goals in all competitions to his name.

Manager Paul Dickov said: “Andy coming here is absolutely fantastic. I’m buzzing. He is a striker whose movement is exceptional and a player that is so, so composed in front of goal.

“He is lethal with his right foot but can also score with his left and with his head. That was something that was missing last season and if we had that, I believe we would have finished in the top six.”

He added, “To have this calibre of player, a player who knows what it takes to get in to those play off positions and to stay there is huge for us. Massive, in fact!

“There were a lot clubs interested in Andy, clubs close to us logistically and clubs in the Championship. When Andy came here to look around he was impressed with the structure of the club, the stadium, the training ground and, importantly, he commended the style of football that we played when we faced Swindon last season. He will fit in nicely.”

When asked what Andy can bring to the team Dickov said, “Apart from goals, his fantastic attitude on and off the pitch it is his movement that will compliment what we already have and the style of play our midfielders create. Harry Forrester, Richie [Wellens] and Copps [James Coppinger] will link up with him well. Andy will integrate well into this side.”

You can see Williams in action when Rovers kick off their home pre-season campaign against Nottingham Forest. Tickets for which can be bought HERE or by calling 01302 762576.
