Rovers Receive Friendly Praise

10 July 2013

Doncaster Rovers continued the commitment to the local community this season after arranging three friendly games against local non-league sides.

Rovers began the pre-season schedule with a game against Frickley Athletic last Tuesday, and after the match the club received the following letter of appreciation from the Frickley Athletic club secretary Steve Pennock:

“On behalf of Frickley Athletic FC I would like to thank Paul Dickov, Brian Horton and everyone at Doncaster Rovers for playing the friendly game against us.

It was greatly appreciated that you brought your full first team squad, and I hope Doncaster Rovers enjoyed the game and got as much out of it as we did.

If you could please pass on my thanks to your management team so that they know how much we appreciated the game.

Hopefully everything went smoothly, and Doncaster Rovers will consider repeating the fixture in the not too distant future.”

Rovers then travelled to Cannon Park on Saturday (6th July) to face another local side in Retford United. Over 700 fans attended that game, and after the game the club received the following letter from Retford United club secretary Annie Knight:

“As a club we just wanted to say thank you again for bringing your first team down to Cannon Park.

I think everyone really enjoyed the day, and, as I said on Saturday, your players, coaching staff, officials and supporters are an absolute credit to the club, and we hope very much to see you again soon.

I sincerely hope that you have a very successful season in the Championship.”

Yesterday evening saw the final of the three local games against Rossington Main. Club Chairman Carl Stokes extended his gratitude to Rovers in his letter to the club:

"I would like extend our sincere thanks to all at Doncaster Rovers for a wonderful night which was enjoyed by all.

Our thanks go out to Paul [Dickov] and his team for being very approachable to all the fans. Let's hope it’s not another 5 years before we can entertain Rovers again at Oxford Street."
