Rovers Sign Latic’s Furman

14 March 2013

Doncaster Rovers are pleased to announce the loan signing of Oldham Athletic captain Dean Furman, subject to paperwork.

Furman is currently in his fourth season at Boundary Park, after signing from Scottish giants Rangers in 2009, and joins on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Beginning his career, as a trainee, at Chelsea under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho, the midfielder went north of the border, to Ibrox, in 2008. After making only one first team appearance for the Scottish Premier League outfit, Furman was loaned out to Bradford City.

At the end of the 2008/09 season Furman turned down the chance to re-sign for Rangers and opted to return to England signing a three-year contract with Oldham Athletic.

Making over 120 appearances for the Latic’s, Furman has established himself as one of the best central midfielders in the league and has attracted many admirers.

The 24 year old is a full South African international and earned his first cap for Bafana Bafana in a friendly against Brazil in September 2012. He earned his first man of the match award in the country's 2-0 defeat of Mozambique later that year.

After representing his country in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, for which he received many plaudits for his performances, Furman returned to Lancashire to resume league football with Oldham.

Dean will wear the number 35 shirt whilst with the club.
