Doncaster Rovers have received many applications for the vacant position of 1st team Manager; however one application stood out from the rest.

At the tender age of just eight years, Doncaster boy Mac Wilson replied to the call of Chairman John Ryan for applications to fill the managerial position left by the departure of Dean Saunders.

In his letter to Rovers Chairman John Ryan, Mac outlined his footballing prowess including 2 and half years as a player at Sprotborough and Cusworth Crusaders.

Mac also outlined his plans to help Rovers to promotion to the Championship this season and to the Premier League within three seasons playing attacking passing football.

Upon receiving his application, John Ryan immediately got in contact with Mac to invite him and his father to the game against Leyton Orient, on Saturday, for an interview and to meet the Rovers players.

John said:
“One of the nicer sides of being the chairman of a football club is that sometimes you can make someone’s day.

“My daughter was with me at the time that I got Mac’s letter and my first thought was to give him a ring. I rang him and got his dad on the phone, who is a Rovers fan too, and asked if I could speak to Mac with regards to the vacancy at Rovers.

“He asked me who it was and when I said John Ryan Chairman of Doncaster Rovers; there was a bit of silence, I think he thought someone was winding him up.

“Mac came on the phone briefly and I asked him whether he would like to come down for an interview, he was a bit shy so his dad took over. I said to him we would like to interview Mac and invited them both down on Saturday for a look round, meet the players and to give him an interview.

“Mac actually put in his letter that he will get us in the Premier League in three years – I thought that was a very positive statement.

“I do get quite a lot of letters and I reply to them all. I think it’s the nice side of being Chairman of a football club.

“I was a mad Rovers fan when I was eight and would have loved it if the Chairman back then, whoever it was, had contacted me - I would have been in awe.

“It’s nice when you do things like that because people do remember.”

Mac’s father Aidy spoke of his surprise after receiving the call from John;

“I couldn’t speak if I was honest; we were absolutely amazed when we got the call.

“Mac thought that it wasn’t John Ryan and that it was my older brother Karl messing around, it took us ten minutes to convince him that it actually was John.

“Mac adores Doncaster Rovers, he really enjoys watching them and is adamant that he will get them into the Premier League within three years!!”

Mac , who is looking forward to his day with Doncaster Rovers has even promised his father a job!

“I was just amazed when we got the call!” he said

“I promised to give my dad the kit man’s job, but if he’s lucky he can be Assistant Manager!!”
